Gerard Way and Shaun Simon on “Fabulous Killjoys” Three-year Journey

“The Umbrella Academy” writer and My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way returned to the world famous CBR Tiki Room at New York Comic Con joined by Shaun Simon, the co-writer on his latest comic book project “The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” from Dark Horse Comics with art by Becky Cloonan. The duo talked about the book’s three-year journey from initial announcement to the book’s actual release, how the album changed the comic, the change of pace that was MorrisonCon and how Simon got involved with the project.

On how “Killjoys” changed over the three years since its announcement:

The comic idea informed the record, and during the record it helped refine the idea and then it was like, “All right, cool. This is what it is.” Really Becky had done this drawing for a single — for “The Only Hope For Me is You” — and it was a drawing of the girl… and I saw it and I was like, “I think this is comic.” And it literally changed that day. I called Shaun and we changed the whole thing. The comic is basically the last video, it’s the last part of the story.

On the book becoming its own thing rather than a reflection of the best comic books of the ’90s:

It’s really its own thing now. It actually feels like a [Hayao] Miyazaki film. The pacing is actually not as frantic as what people are going to expect. It’s paced very well, and it’s paced kind of moderately. There’s basicall

Simon on how he got involved with the project:

Gerard had finished the first “Umbrella” and he was coming up with these ideas and, knowing Gerard for as long as I did, we tend to mesh on a lot of — our wavelengths and stuff. I was working on some ideas, too, and they just started to come together and Gerard called me up one day and he’s like, “Yo, you wanna kind of merge these and just do this thing together?” What we were working on then inspired him to do the record, and then the record inspired us to tell the story we’re telling now.y three stories going on at once, so it’s not like “Umbrella” where — you know, a team book or something — we’re doing this thing where you have to tell three stories that basically converge, with three separate locations, basically.

On the difference between MorrisonCon and other conventions:

Everybody there felt special. Everybody there felt like they were a part of something cultural. I got to sit down withpeople for like fifteen minutes, and I don’t get to do that at any convention, or any band signing or even meeting somebody in the street I don’t get to do that. … It had a warmth to it and it was just a very inspiring thing.

Gerard Way, 1991 [Photo]

This photo this a the sale in Ebay:

Original photograph of Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance.

OLD school pic. Still in nice condition with a couple fingerprints and scuffs,  a few marks, nothing too bad.

I took this photo in 1991, another one from Gerard’s house in Belleville NJ, this is the original.
He’s REALLY rocking out in his Iron Maiden shirt.
This is my LAST copy of the picture.  Any scans you see online are from my original photos.

Check Out New My Chemical Romance

Epiphone’s My Chemical Romance released advance clips of two songs from their Conventional Weapons sessions, “Boy Division” and “Tomorrow’s Money.” The songs will be available for download tomorrow and more tracks are expected starting next month and continuing through February.

“We hope you enjoy these time capsules,” wrote  Frank Iero, Daddy of the Phant-o-matic, on the MCR website, “and that they may shed a little more light on how and where Danger Days came from, and maybe even where the future of MCR might be heading.” Check out our recent interview with Frank on the new album expected for next year.

Frank Iero in his old school

We stopped and met with some students from the music club. Since Frank wasn’t able to come on Friday, Mr. Maisano wanted to pull the seniors for a few minutes to speak with him.

They asked a few cool questions. Frank told some stories. There is a picture coming up where he makes a really great face. Here Frank was given the issue of Musician’s Friend magazine that featured his signature model.

Apparently, magazines don’t send copies to the people on the cover.

Gerard Way talk next album!

At New York Comic Con 2012 while promoting his forthcoming illustrated novel True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, Artisan News asked Gerard Way about the next My Chemical Romance album.

Number One: Tomorrow’s Money (Lyrics)

Tomorrow’s Money

Fell in love with a vampire
you wanna get it for free
then say hello to the brushfire, baby
you gotta take it from me
i’m gonna take it from you
say hello to the good times
and say hello to the sun
sit back on an empire
while the world lays back
would you get behind that gun

If we crash this time
they got machines to keep us alive
when the mix tape plays
choke down the words with no meaning

I stopped bleeding/believing three years ago
while you keep screaming for revolution
me and my surgeons and my street walking friends
we got no heroes ’cause our heroes are dead

Yeah!

Say hello to the programme
we’re gonna get in for free
we’ve got our feet in the antibodies
got it with the disease
we’re gonna give it to you
say goodbye to the good times
you’re loading up with the fame
you’re dressing up like a virus
but the words get lost when we all look the same

If we crash this time
they got machines to keep us alive
when the mix tape plays
choke down the words with no meaning

I stopped bleeding/believing three years ago
while you keep screaming for revolution
me and my surgeons and my street walking friends
we got no heroes ’cause our heroes are dead

yeah

fell in love with a vampire
tops off for the empire
say hello to the brushfire
I think my phone’s got a tap wire

Fell in love with a vampire
tops off for the empire
say hello to the brushfire
I think my phone’s got a tap wire

Yeah!

Yeah, if we crash this time
they got machines to keep us alive
we’re the only ones
shut down a war with no meaning
I stopped bleeding/believing three years ago
while you keep screaming for revolution

Because I’m? down? t-shirt you sell
you keep your money and i’ll see you in hell
