MCR is on the MTV list of Most Anticipated Rock Albums of 2013

catsMy Chemical Romance

They’ve already begun releasing songs from the so-called Conventional Weapons series — aka the album they scrapped before recording 2010′Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys — and guitarist Frank Iero previously said MCR had already begun work on a conventional follow up, writing and recording in the studio they built in Los Angeles. What will be the concept this time? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Gerard Way, Shaun Simon and Becky Cloonan’s Killjoys is one of IGN’s Most Anticipated Comics of 2013!

The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys
Writer: Gerard Way & Shaun Simon | Artist: Becky Cloonan | Publisher: Dark Horse | Release: June 2013

It’s been a while since we’ve seen any comic book work from Gerard Way, the writer of the utterly fabulous Umbrella Academy. Though more Umbrella Academy isn’t in the cards at the moment, his new project – The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys – takes its name from Way’s band’s most recent record, My Chemical Romance’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, a concept album about a post-apocalyptic future. This book is the continuation of that story, starring the lone surviving member of the original Killjoys who must continue the good fight against the evil corporation known as Better Living Industries.

But don’t worry, fandom of My Chemical Romance or experience with the Danger Days album isn’t required; Way’s quirky writing style (along with co-writer Shaun Simon) will surely deliver some mighty fine characters, and the inclusion of Becky Cloonan on art duties is simply icing on the cake.

“Actually now looking back on it, it definitely seems like we didn’t know what we wanted to do in the worst way. I like Danger Days because it’s very eclectic but there’s a cohesiveness in it because of the lyrics, the energy and the vibe. With the scrapped record, it was very disjointed. There were maybe five or six songs that kind of had Vampire Money type of energy mixed in with…. There were some good songs in there but they didn’t gel the right way. You can tell that the band was still unsure what the complete work was and we like to work on a complete thought and this definitely wasn’t.”Ray Toro in 2011 when asked about the scrapped album they had recorded and the lack of distinctiveness.

I think it was more that we were so excited to get back together to play again that we mistakenly were writing a record when we should have just been jamming together, not writing songs. By the end of that process, we ran out of time and were like “oh shit, well I guess we have to put out a record”Frank Iero.

“Which is never good. That’s what happened. We ran out of time in the studio. I don’t think anybody felt like that we had finished a full record.” – Ray Toro

Number Four: Kiss The Ring [Lyrics]

We kill the girls to get paid
And put the whole damn room on the edge of a blade
You’ll get far, stay clean
And if the world stops believing, I’ll keep believing
That the world could make a change
And put the suicide dolls as the last ones to mate
So come hard, stay clean
And sing songs for the damned now

Hail-hail
‘Cause the king is gone
And if you don’t stop believing, we’ll keep believing
You put the record on
And live the life that you’re making
Shots that you’re taking

So grab the cash and run
And let the suits watch each other kill one another
It doesn’t matter if the words don’t mean a thing
You gotta kiss that ring

Well, alright

Move like the walls
And keep the faith
There ain’t a dry eye left in the back of the place
Is it hard to stay clean?
And if you all keep believing, I’ll keep believing
That the world drives the saints
And put the shotgun shells in the hills it makes
So come hard, stay clean
Because they don’t give a damn now

Hail, hail
‘Cause the king is gone
And if you don’t stop believing, we’ll keep believing
You got your leather on
And live the life that you’re making
Shots that you’re taking
It doesn’t matter if the world don’t mean a thing
You gotta kiss that ring

Hail, hail ‘cause the king is gone
Hail, hail ‘cause the king is gone
Hail, hail ‘cause the king is gone
Hail, hail ‘cause the king is, the king is gone

Hail, hail, hail, hail, hail,
Because the king is gone

And if you don’t stop believing, we’ll keep believing
And get your leather on

And live the life that you’re making
Shots that you’re taking
So grab the cash and run
And let the suits watch each other kill one another
It doesn’t matter if the words don’t mean a thing

Fist up, head down
Hail, hail to the king
